Oriani libraryRavenna

The project reorganised the Library and brought it into line with current building regulations. It involved restoring and adapting the two wings of the portico for use as a reading room and a temporary exhibition space and improving the adjacent gardens forming a pathway leading to the Piazza.

Abstract:
The building (1934-36) of the Library named after Alfredo Oriani on the site of the former sixteenth century Casa Rizzetti, on the edge of Piazza San Francesco, was the final chapter in the lengthy saga of Ravenna’s “Zona Dantesca” that began during the Twenties when Giulio Ulisse Arata was commissioned to work on the Palazzo della Provincia and Gustavo Giovannoni was entrusted with the urban redevelopment of the area.
