The former monastery of Santa Maria del LavelloCalolziocorte (LC)

The restoration of the organism and its surrounding landscape was studied to re-establish the spatial and distributive character of the monastery, disfigured, especially in recent decades, by the buildings inappropriate use.

The search to maximise the compatibility between the design choices and the character of the existing structure hinged around the adoption of non invasive technical solutions inspiring to a minimal intervention philosophy. Avoiding in the technical alterations required for accessibility, sanitary services and environmental comfort to demolish or alter of the original walls.

The shoring up of the individual structures and the overall static improvement of the complex was obtained, for the roofs, through the connection of the trusses e beams with timber stringer-courses along their supports. While the first floor was consolidated by laying a concrete slab firmly secured to the perimeter walls and adding steel tie beams complete with anchor plates and couplings.

Abstract:
The Monastery, founded by the Servites in the late 15th century, suppressed in 1772, is one of the most important religious monuments in the Valley of San Martino. Its restoration made possible by financing from the Lombardy Region and the EU consented to enhance its role as a resource for tourism in the lecchese territory to be used as a centre for cultural, receptive e training activities.
